"CE Marking" means affixing a label on a product
or package with a specific logo consisting of the letters CE, which
stand for the French phrase "Communauté Européenne"
(European Community).
CE Marking is mandated by law in the European Community (EC) and
is a legal requirement for products exported to the European Economic
Area (EEA). The European Community has established strict guidelines
for CE Marking and non-compliance is the same as breaking a law.
Products imported to any of the following countries must meet the
requirements of the applicable EC Directives and bear the "CE
Marking" as a sign of conformity:
Austria
Belgium
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Luxembourg
The
Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
United
Kingdom
The EC Directives were designed to establish a system that ensures
the health and safety of users, and to conform to quality standards
accepted by the EC. CE Marking applies to products that are regulated
and described by the EC Directives.
