ISO, the International
Organization for Standardization, was formed in 1946 in
Geneva, Switzerland. The organization currently consists of some
130 member bodies from countries around the world. ISO is a non-governmental
organization with its members drawn from national standardization
institutes and/or organizations.
The International Organization for Standardization aims to develop
technical standards to ease trade between countries, and to make
companies more productive and efficient by establishing consistency.
Hence, the word ISO as the name for the organization was derived
from the Greek word "isos" which means "same"
or "equal".
